6 Dead In Terror Attack in Jakarta, Indonesia Blames ISIS: 10 Developments
Terrorists are allegedly hiding in a threatre complex which has restaurants, but officials have not confirmed any hostage crisis
  1. Jakarta:  At least six people were killed in a gun and bomb assault in the centre of Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Thursday. The terror group ISIS is "definitely" behind the attack, the police said.Four suspected attackers have been killed and four arrested. Two civilians were killed as grenades exploded between 10 and 11 am in a crowded area of Jakarta close to the presidential palace and a UN office complex.
  2. The police say at least two suicide bombers blew themselves up inside a Starbucks coffee shop.
  3. Up to 15 attackers are believed to have entered the city on motorcycles, armed with guns and explosives. Some of the terrorists hid in a theatre complex.
  4. Indonesian TV reported three more explosions outside the Pakistani and Turkish embassies.
  5. After the blasts, hundreds of policemen and armoured tanks moved into the area, which sees large crowds because of the Sarinah shopping complex and several cafes.
  6. Visuals just after the explosions showed bodies lying on the road near Starbucks and smoke around buildings. People were seen running or hiding behind cars.
  7. This is the first major attack in Jakarta since the twin bombings in 2009. Indonesia has been on high alert after ISIS threats to attack government officials, foreigners and others.
  8. UN official Jeremy Douglas tweeted that a suicide bomber was "literally 100m from the office and my hotel."
  9. More than 9,000 police were also posted in Bali, the site of Indonesia's deadliest terror attack in which some 200 people were killed in 2002.
  10. Last year, it was reported that at least 50 Indonesians had joined the thousands of foreign fighters who had traveled to Syria to help extremist groups trying to create an Islamic state there.
